VisionaryAt 29, Taiwo Taiwo was already running the Maryland hotel, but she was now charged with raising the finance and project managing the construction of the new Elephant House. At that young age, she successfully coordinated what, at that time, was the first consortium long term bridge lending by institutional lenders in Nigeria to finance construction of Elephant House with First Bank acting as the lead Bank. So that was the beginning of Shonny Investments and Properties Company relationship with First Bank. The construction of Elephant House was completed on time and to budget of $21m and was opened, fully let, in January 1984 and by 1989 the company had completed the payback to the long term financiers. Shonny Investments and Properties Company Limited thus became the first company to have discharged its obligations as and when due in the history of the Nigeria capital market.
